As an artist my work explores human behaviour and our interactions with each other and the outside world. I am drawn to beauty in the mundane and how repeated everyday action can form parts of our identity. I am heavily fascinated with communication, particularly the rhythmic ideas of universal action.

In my recent work I have been exploring the complexity of memory, creating works in response to personal childhood experiences. I am fascinated by the repetition of exhuming and discussing memory; there is a strong presence in absence which can form a pattern to become a fully tangible, graspable object. These objects possess a sense of memento mori, acting almost as props created by call and response; from a conversation with a past self. This rhythmic pattern can also form connections and game-like structures, which can be experienced in part through the work.

To make my investigations I have been using materials and mediums associated and used in my childhood, such as video, sculpture, drawing, painting, text and music. My interests in both film and musical structures have led to experiments in the isolation of sound and moving image, splitting them into their individual elements to play with the expected communications between the two media.

I intend with this work to open up conversation and discussion around our individual pasts, to encourage the collective reflection of our personal memories, exhuming them to understand their complexity and importance to our own identities.

Fel artist mae fy ngwaith yn archwilio ymddygiad pobl a’r ffordd rydym yn rhyngweithio â’n gilydd a’r byd o’n cwmpas. Rwy’n hoffi gweld prydferthwch mewn pethau cyffredin ac ystyried y ffordd y gall yr hyn a wnawn yn feunyddiol greu elfennau o’n hunaniaeth. Mae cyfathrebu yn fy niddori i’n fawr, yn enwedig syniadau rhythmig gweithredoedd cyffredin.

Yn fy ngwaith diweddar, rwyf wedi bod yn archwilio natur gymhleth y cof, gan greu gwaith mewn ymateb i brofiadau personol mewn plentyndod. Mae ffurf ailadroddus dwyn pethau i gof a’u trafod mor ddiddorol i mi; mae presenoldeb cryf mewn absenoldeb a all greu patrwm i ddod yn wrthrych cyffyrddadwy go iawn. Mae gan y gwrthrychau hyn ymdeimlad o memento mori, ac maent bron fel propiau a gaiff eu creu drwy alw ac ymateb; o sgwrs â fersiwn flaenorol ohonoch chi’ch hun. Gall y patrwm rhythmig hwn hefyd greu cysylltiadau a strwythurau tebyg i gêm, a all gael eu profi’n rhannol drwy’r gwaith.

I gynnal fy ymchwiliadau, rwyf wedi bod yn defnyddio deunyddiau a chyfryngau sy’n gysylltiedig â’m plentyndod, fel fideo, cerflunwaith, tynnu lluniau, paentio, testun a cherddoriaeth. Mae fy niddordeb mewn ffilm a strwythurau cerddorol wedi arwain at arbrofi ag ynyswch sain a delweddau symudol, gan eu rhannu’n elfennau unigol er mwyn chwarae â’r ohebiaeth ddisgwyliedig rhwng y ddau gyfrwng.

Bwriad fy ngwaith yw dechrau sgwrs a thrafodaeth am ein gorffennol unigol, er mwyn annog myfyrio ar ein hatgofion personol gyda’n gilydd, gan eu dwyn i gof er mwyn deall eu cymhlethdod a’u pwysigrwydd i’n hunaniaeth.
