My purpose for creating my work is to unpick political problems such as racism, but my focus changes as the world does. Recently I have been limited due to covid, but this is giving me time to develop my plans for future installations. The focus of mine now, is the word fragility and the concept behind the word. Tearing apart what it means to be fragile in different situations, so at current, I find something that is not seen as fragile, in which can take a lot of pressure/force. To which I do the reverse on it by turning it, into a fragile state, to show the vulnerability/exposure of an item, or a situation.

In my practice mostly all the pieces that I create have hidden meanings behind them which I really enjoy exploring and looking into them. With some of the pieces that I have created I enjoy finding their hidden meanings behind them. I like to explore the possibilities, looking deeper and researching the truth. Being able to adapt and pick up something new as an artist is important and I try and include that in my everyday practice. I make sure that my work is very up-to-date and current, to what I am interested in.

Diben fy ngwaith yw mynd i’r afael â phroblemau gwleidyddol fel hiliaeth, ond mae fy ffocws yn newid fel mae’r byd. Yn ddiweddar, mae COVID wedi cyfyngu arnaf, ond mae’n rhoi amser imi ddatblygu fy nghynlluniau ar gyfer gosodiadau yn y dyfodol. Ar hyn o bryd rwy’n canolbwyntio ar y gair bregusrwydd a’i gysyniad. Rwy’n ymchwilio i’r hyn mae’n ei olygu i fod yn fregus mewn gwahanol sefyllfaoedd, felly ar hyn o bryd, rwy’n dod o hyd i rywbeth nad yw’n cael ei ystyried yn fregus, a all gymryd llawer o bwysau/grym. Byddaf yn gwneud y gwrthwyneb iddo drwy ei droi yn rhywbeth bregus, er mwyn dangos natur agored i niwed eitem, neu sefyllfa.

Mae gan y rhan fwyaf o ddarnau yn fy ngwaith ystyr gudd, ac rwyf wrth fy modd yn archwilio hynny. Gyda rhai o’r darnau rwyf wedi eu creu, rwy’n mwynhau darganfod eu hystyron cudd. Rwy’n mwynhau archwilio’r posibiliadau, edrych yn ddyfnach ac ymchwilio i’r gwirionedd. Mae’n bwysig gallu addasu a rhoi cynnig ar rywbeth newydd fel artist, ac rwy’n ceisio gwneud hynny yn fy ngwaith beunyddiol. Rwy’n sicrhau bod fy ngwaith yn gyfredol ac yn adlewyrchu’r hyn y mae gennyf ddiddordeb ynddo.

Fragility turned upside down

7ft tall x 3ft wide pine wood beams, fishing wire, 125 slip cast ceramic golf balls.

Fragility turned upside down is a concept piece, that has taken something not deemed fragile and turned it into its fragile state, the golf ball represents this. Ive investigated the word fragility and explored the vulnerability and what it means to be fragile and have broken it down to create this piece. Fragility turned upside down is a piece about being in a fragile state and life being changed, whether it is for the better or not it is a piece about new beginnings and endings. With this piece I want you to think about what makes you fragile and respect it as it makes you who you are today. The door frame symbolises metaphorical beginnings and endings as to start something new you must enter through a new door and to complete something you must exit through another. The door is meant to make you feel uncomfortable, you will walk through it and feel uneasy due to the ceramic golf balls hanging at various lengths. The brightness of the doorframe is to show that being fragile can still be a happy thing and its going to be okay. Yellow is seen as a middle ground of the colour world as it balances things out.
