Abstract painting

Psychogeography and documenting my experiences and observations of nature alongside urban environments are central to my work. Investigating how our imagination can turn our surroundings into something different. Walks, sketches, and every day observations inspire the ideas that make up my work, not just visibly but also by sense of smell and sound. My paintings investigate nature through passionate experiences in which visual stimuli influence emotions and in turn create a new emotional response.

As John Dewey states ” Art is not nature, but is nature transformed by entering into new relationships where it evokes a new emotional response”

I use paint to convey these feelings and perceptions that I am unable to express in words. The scenes I see are often incomprehensible, and words fall short of adequately describing what I see/experience. Exploring paint through the concept of flatness while also layering to create paintings that appear alive, moving, and organic. Analysing natural forms and structural elements with the aim of abstracting, fragmenting and deconstructing them. A delicate balance between hidden feelings and deep inner connections.

My work aims to re-establish a link between humans and nature. I believe that admiration for nature is innate in all of us, but that it is often suppressed in the majority of the world’s population who lead busy consumer-oriented lives.  Modern society has become profoundly disconnected from nature. As a result I turn my experiences with nature into works that the audience can subjectively perceive, allowing them to have their own unique experience.

Mae seicoddaearyddiaeth a chofnodi fy mhrofiadau a’m harsylwadau ar natur ochr yn ochr ag amgylcheddau trefol yn ganolog i’m gwaith. Rwy’n ymchwilio i’r ffordd y gall ein dychymyg droi ein cynefin yn rhywbeth gwahanol. Mae mynd am dro, brasluniau, ac arsylwadau pob dydd yn ysbrydoli fy ngwaith, ac nid dim ond yn weledol ond hefyd arogleuon a synau. Mae fy mhaentiadau yn archwilio natur drwy brofiadau dwfn lle mae ysgogiadau gweledol yn llywio emosiynau, ac yna’n creu ymateb emosiynol newydd.

Fel y dywed John Dewey ” Art is not nature, but is nature transformed by entering into new relationships where it evokes a new emotional response”

Rwy’n defnyddio paent i gyfleu’r teimladau a’r canfyddiadau hyn na allaf eu mynegi mewn geiriau. Mae’r golygfeydd a welaf yn aml yn amhosibl eu dirnad, ac ni all geiriau ddisgrifio’r hyn rwy’n ei weld neu’n ei brofi i raddau digonol. Byddaf yn edrych ar baent o safbwynt ei undonedd, ond byddaf hefyd yn defnyddio haenau er mwyn creu paentiadau sy’n ymddangos yn fyw, yn organig, ac sydd fel petaent yn symud. Dadansoddir ffurfiau naturiol ac elfennau strwythurol gyda’r nod o’u haniaethu, eu darnio a’u dadelfennu. Mae angen taro cydbwysedd gofalus rhwng teimladau cudd a chysylltiadau mewnol dwfn.

Nod fy ngwaith yw ailgysylltu dynion a natur. Credaf fod pob un ohonom yn gallu edmygu natur, ond nid yw mwyafrif y boblogaeth yn ein byd yn llwyddo i wneud hynny am fod eu bywydau mor brysur a dan ddylanwad yr angen i brynu pethau.  Nid oes perthynas agos rhwng cymdeithas fodern a natur mwyach, ac o ganlyniad i hynny rwy’n troi fy mhrofiadau o natur yn waith y gall y gynulleidfa edrych arno’n wrthrychol, gan alluogi pawb i gael eu profiad unigryw eu hunain.
