Repeated exposure through art, to unveil the truth of trauma and facilitate healing has been the core concept of my work.

‘Repeated exposure to the aversive elements of the memory may eventually reduce their salience’, Craske, 2015

The work I have been creating reveals trauma in its different forms by unveiling memories in a variety of ways, inspired by different artists including Naïve artists and Outsider artists. These artists inspired me to let go of preconceived notions of perfection and to paint directly from my traumatised mind.

To accentuate the intimate history of my anguish I have chosen to work solely from memory, I decided to focus on memory as a form of abstraction and locate this through a form of abstract painting.

Throughout my work I have been repeating the same torturous memories over and over, repetition of memories has allowed me to pinpoint some fundamental traumatic experiences to reveal and question their impact. In so doing, I wish to provide a space for the viewer to participate in terms of their own personal experience.

Mae amlygiad mynych drwy gelf, er mwyn datgelu gwirionedd trawma a helpu rhywun i wella, wedi bod wrth wraidd fy ngwaith.

‘Repeated exposure to the aversive elements of the memory may eventually reduce their salience’, Craske, 2015.

Mae’r gwaith rwyf wedi bod yn ei greu yn datgelu trawma ar ei ffurfiau gwahanol drwy ddatgelu atgofion mewn amrywiaeth o ffyrdd, ac ysbrydolir hyn gan artistiaid gwahanol gan gynnwys artistiaid Naïf ac O’r Tu Allan. Gwnaeth yr artistiaid hyn fy ysbrydoli i adael fynd o gysyniadau o berffeithrwydd a phaentio’n uniongyrchol o’m meddwl trawmateiddiedig.

Er mwyn tanlinellu natur fy ngofid rwyf wedi dewis gweithio o gof yn unig, ac fel ffurf ar echdynnu a lleoli hyn drwy baentiadau haniaethol.

Yn fy ngwaith rwyf wedi bod yn ailadrodd yr un atgofion hunllefus drosodd a throsodd, a thrwy ailadrodd atgofion rwyf wedi gallu tanlinellu rhai profiadau trawmatig sylfaenol er mwyn datgelu a chwestiynu eu heffaith. Wrth wneud hynny, rwyf am roi lle i’r gynulleidfa gymryd rhan ar sail eu profiad personol eu hunain.
