As an artist the way in which I work and create has changed extremely from first year. From working with paint as my main medium to now creating performance stills, videos and photography collages.

My degree project involved individuals telling me inappropriate statements that have been either said to them in social settings like bars, walking down the street, through message and online.

I have been intrigued with how an individual experiences interaction with others and how they deal with it; whether they internalise it or externalise it. The use of the mouth in my work plays on the oral aspect, as a society the mouth is seen as a form of communication or in another role for sexual use. Playing on the sexual role the mouth can play, using dynamic and sometimes almost uncomfortable or slimy feeling to the photos. This is to reflect the same feelings that can be felt by the receiver of these statements.

Taking the collaged photography and bringing it back to life in short video clips, highlighting the symbolism of internalising or externalising these inappropriate statements that the receivers have to deal with. Keeping the uncomfortable chewing noises in the videos is deliberately left in to add to the feeling of uneasiness that the people would have felt when the inappropriate statements were said to them.

Mae a wnelo ‘Put Words in My Mouth’ â dod yn rhywioledig mewn lleoliad cymdeithasol ond caiff ei gyflwyno mewn ffordd anghyfforddus yn hytrach na ffordd glamarws a masnachol esthetig.

Mae’r ffordd y mae rhywun yn rhyngweithio ag eraill o ddiddordeb mawr imi; a ydynt yn gwneud hynny mewn ffordd fewnol neu allanol. Wrth imi ddatblygu fel artist, rwyf bob amser wedi gofyn y cwestiynau ‘A yw fy ngwaith yn gwneud i bobl deimlo’n anghyfforddus?’ neu ‘A yw fy ngwaith yn dechrau sgwrs?’. Yn fy mhrosiect diweddaraf mae unigolion yn rhannu’r pethau amhriodol mae rhywun wedi dweud wrthynt yn gyhoeddus neu ar-lein. Drwy droi’r datganiadau yn ffotograffiaeth collage mae’n anos eu darllen, gan greu’r ymdeimlad o rwystredigaeth, anfodlonrwydd a’r syniad trosiadol o’r dinistr a all gael ei greu gan y datganiadau hyn. Dynion a ddywedodd y pethau hyn wrth ddynion a menywod; mewn lleoliadau cymdeithasol fel bariau, cerdded i lawr y stryd, drwy neges neu ar-lein.

Yna fe es ati i droi’r ffotograffiaeth collage yn glipiau fideo byr, gan danlinellu symbolaeth mewnoli neu allanoli’r datganiadau amhriodol hyn y mae’n rhaid i bobl ddelio â nhw. Cedwais y synau cnoi anghyfforddus yn y fideos yn fwriadol er mwyn ychwanegu at y teimlad anghysurus hwnnw y byddai’r bobl wedi ei deimlo wrth glywed y pethau hyn.

Teimlaf fy mod wedi cyrraedd nod y prosiect, ac fe wnes i fwynhau’r broses, ac ar y cyfan rwy’n fodlon ar y canlyniad fel artist sy’n hynod feirniadol o’i waith. Teimlaf fod hyn ynddo’i hun yn dipyn o gamp.
