Artist statement- Within my practice I investigate the concepts of the “Afterlife” and “Ghosts”. I have very open opinions regarding my practice topic, and I enjoy challenging myself to create conceptually unique imagery that has a balance of narrative and abstraction/expression. The ideas of death and how there are multiple theories surrounding what happens when we die is something of great interest to me. I like the ideas of playing with different religious concepts and symbolism to display my ideas and messages. I use this within my compositions, and with thorough research I was able to apply these ideas to my practice. I express my work through painting whatever imagery comes to mind, based on primary and secondary influences. Throughout my practice I discovered how different mediums can allow me to express different ideas. Ive discovered through continued development that I enjoy working with layers and texture in order to create compositions that have depth, interest and to balance out various areas of my work. The use of texture enables me to craft my vision and reach the refinement of a composition that I strive for.

Through my practice I aim to create a relationship between religious symbolism and the ideas around the afterlife. This is due to the fascinating beliefs that different religious and non-religious people experience, and I aim to explore this throughout my practice, and to create responses to various religious concepts and symbolism. Symbolism itself can be intimate and secretive, much like the feelings around the “afterlife”. Whatever happens when we die is personal and private, this is clear and no one knows what happens when we go. To be able explore these concepts through my work will allow my practice to grow as an artist, and will further allow me to develop professional skills and experience for the future of my practice.

Yn fy ngwaith, rwy’n archwilio cysyniadau “Bywyd ar Ôl Marwolaeth” ac “Ysbrydion”. Mae gen i farn agored iawn am fy mhwnc, ac rwy’n mwynhau herio fy hun i greu delweddau cysyniadol unigryw sy’n cydbwyso naratif a haniaeth/mynegiad. Mae’r syniad o farwolaeth a’r holl ddamcaniaethau ynghylch yr hyn sy’n digwydd pan fyddwn yn marw yn rhywbeth sy’n mynd â’m bri. Rwy’n hoffi’r syniad o chwarae â gwahanol gysyniadau a symbolaeth grefyddol er mwyn cyflwyno fy syniadau a negeseuon. Rwy’n defnyddio hyn yn fy ngwaith, a thrwy wneud gwaith ymchwil trylwyr bu modd imi roi’r syniadau hyn ar waith. Rwy’n mynegi fy hun drwy baentio pa ddelwedd bynnag rwy’n meddwl amdani, yn seiliedig ar ddylanwadau sylfaenol ac eilaidd. Drwy gydol fy ngwaith, gwelais sut y gall gwahanol gyfryngau fy ngalluogi i fynegi gwahanol syniadau.

Rwy’n anelu at greu perthynas rhwng symbolaeth grefyddol a’r syniadau sydd ynghlwm wrth fywyd ar ôl marwolaeth. Y rheswm dros hyn yw’r credoau rhyfeddol sydd gan wahanol bobl grefyddol ac anghrefyddol, a’r nod sydd gennyf yw archwilio hyn drwy fy ngwaith, a chreu ymatebion i wahanol gysyniadau a symbolaeth grefyddol. Gall symbolaeth ei hun fod yn rhywbeth agos atoch a chyfrinachol, yn debyg i’r hyn a deimlir am “fywyd ar ôl marwolaeth”. Mae beth bynnag sy’n digwydd ar ôl inni farw yn bersonol ac yn breifat, sy’n amlwg, ac nid oes neb yn gwybod beth sy’n digwydd wedi inni fynd. Drwy archwilio’r cysyniadau hyn drwy fy ngwaith, byddaf yn gallu tyfu fel artist, a bydd hefyd yn fy ngalluogi i feithrin sgiliau proffesiynol a phrofiad at y dyfodol.
