My work investigates materials through a mixed media approach. The exploration of techniques like; blind-drawing, sculpture, screenprint and photography, allows me to loosely express my ideas. As an artist, I am excited by the power of using art to abstract the true reality of objects. This challenges my audience to perceive the world in a new light. Creating juxtapositions is a method I use to produce a new meaning, conceptually strengthen my ideas and visually appear “seductive to the imagination” (Ryan Gander, 2007-2021).

Repetition is another theme I love to explore. Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Dots Obsession’ has greatly influenced my research over the years. Kusama’s dark concepts of using art as a process of addressing her childhood fears confronts her compulsive obsessions, which is relevant to my practise today. Kusama’s use of bold visuals has inspired me to address my own personal concerns.

In recent works, I have confronted the repetitive lists which have given my life order in our current chaotic climate by creating an ambiguous home installation. Researching primal ways of making, like paper mache, has helped to emphasise the reality of being stuck at home without access to industrial machines. Now, there are no boundaries between me and the material. Sculptor, Karla Black, has influenced me to be in tune with my childlike self. Her work is grounded on a horizontal level, reflecting her perspective as a child. Whilst playing around with unconventional materials like makeup, she again enhances an experimental and primitive concept within her art.

Mae fy ngwaith yn ymchwilio i ddeunyddiau drwy gyfryngau cymysg. Archwilir technegau fel dallddarlunio, cerflunwaith, sgrinargraffu a ffotograffiaeth, sy’n fy ngalluogi i fynegi fy syniadau’n fras. Fel artist, rwyf wrth fy modd yn defnyddio celf i weld gwirionedd gwrthrychau. Mae hyn yn herio fy nghynulleidfa i weld y byd o’r newydd. Mae creu cyfatebiaeth yn ddull rwy’n ei ddefnyddio i greu ystyr newydd, gan atgyfnerthu fy syniadau’n gysyniadol ac ymddangos yn weledol yn “seductive to the imagination” (Ryan Gander, 2007-2021).

Mae ailadrodd yn thema arall rwy’n hoff iawn o’i harchwilio. Mae Obsesiwn Dotiau Yayoi Kusama wedi cael dylanwad mawr ar fy ymchwil dros y blynyddoedd. Mae cysyniadau tywyll Kusama yn defnyddio celf i fynd i’r afael â’i hofnau fel plentyn er mwyn trechu ei hobsesiynau cymhellol, sy’n berthnasol i’m gwaith heddiw. Mae defnydd Kusama o ddelweddau cryf wedi fy ysbrydoli i fynd i’r afael â’m pryderon personol.

Mewn gwaith diweddar, rwyf wedi mynd i’r afael â’r rhestrau ailadroddus sydd wedi rhoi trefn i’m bywyd yn yr hinsawdd ddi-drefn sydd ohoni drwy greu gosodiad cartref amwys. Mae ymchwilio i ffyrdd cysefin o wneud, fel paper mache, wedi fy helpu i bwysleisio reality bod yn gaeth i’r cartref heb fynediad i beiriannau diwydiannol. Nawr, nid oes unrhyw rwystrau rhyngof i a’r deunydd. Mae’r cerflunydd, Karla Black, wedi dylanwadu arnaf i greu cytgord â’m hunan plentynnaidd. Mae ei gwaith yn isel i’r ddaear, gan adlewyrchu’r hyn roedd yn ei weld fel plentyn. Wrth chwarae â deunyddiau anghonfensiynol fel colur, mae’n tanlinellu cysyniad arbrofol a chyntefig yn ei gwaith.
