I consider myself an abstraction artist, my work mainly focuses on the simplicity of square, circle and triangle and the ways in which they can from patterns. From a young age I have always loved simple shapes and patterns. This derived from playing with wooden coloured shapes and blocks as a child. I would arrange the shapes into different patterns and try to create something that would fit together neatly.

I mainly work on wood boards and acrylic paint as most of my work focuses on bold flat colour and simple shapes. Within my work I focus on bold flat shapes, I try to create straight lines but due to human error they are not always perfect. I have recently learnt to accept my imperfections when painting lines and shapes. Many of my works challenge the idea that everything has a place and fits perfect within each other.

Within my work explore the ways in which colour interacts and reacts with one another. Artists such as Kenneth Noland, Josef Albers and Carol Robertson has influenced my work. They have helped me push my work further and gain a better understanding of colour. I chose to use simple forms and shapes to better convey how colour interacts, this in turn also avoids a sense of a narrative or expression within the work.


Yn fy ngwaith rwy’n canolbwyntio ar siapiau fflat cadarn, ac rwy’n ceisio creu llinellau syth ond, oherwydd gwallau dynol, nid ydynt bob amser yn berffaith. Yn ddiweddar rwyf wedi dysgu derbyn y ffaith nad wyf yn berffaith wrth baentio llinellau a siapiau. Mae cryn dipyn o’m gwaith yn herio’r syniad bod lle i bopeth a bod popeth yn cyd-fynd.

Rwyf wedi nodi, wrth baentio darnau, fy mod i’n ymlacio ac yn synfyfyrio. Mae’r siapiau ar gyfer pob darn bob amser wedi’u dewis ymlaen llaw ond caiff y paledi lliw eu dewis pan fyddaf yn synfyfyrio.

Yn ddiweddar rwyf wedi archwilio’r ffyrdd y mae lliw yn rhyngweithio ac yn ymateb i’w gilydd. Mae artistiaid fel Kenneth Noland, Josef Albers a Jeremy Moon wedi dylanwadu ar fy ngwaith, ac maent wedi fy helpu i anelu’n uwch a meithrin gwell dealltwriaeth o liw. Penderfynais ddewis ffurfiau a siapiau syml er mwyn cyfleu’r ffordd mae lliw yn rhyngweithio yn well, ac mae hyn hefyd yn osgoi ymdeimlad o naratif neu fynegiant yn fy ngwaith.
